Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a Physician Assistant?
A. A Physician Assistant, or PA, is a licensed and highly skilled health care professional, trained to provide patient evaluation, education, and health care services. A PA works with a physician to provide medical care and guidance needed by a patient. The physician supervises the PA and is available to the PA should the need arise. The supervising physician follows each patient’s progress.

Q. What education and training did David complete to become a PA?
A. David attended a specialized medical training program associated with the University of California at Davis medical school that includes classroom studies and clinical experience. He received an academic degree upon graduation. David also has a four-year (B.A) degree . In addition he is a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Nurse Practitioner.

Q. What additional specialized training did David complete?
A. He has received extensive training in herbal medicine, naturopathic approaches, homeopathy, and energy medicine.

Q. What types of services are provided by David Overton?
A. David performs many diagnostic, preventative, and health maintenance services. He is trained to perform 95% of what a Medical Doctor can do. These services include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing physical examinations
  • Establishing diagnoses
  • Ordering X-rays and laboratory tests
  • Prescribing all pharmaceutical drugs
  • Performing routine diagnostic tests (such as EKGs, pulmonary function tests, glucose levels, etc)
  • Instructing and counseling patients
  • Provide referrals within the health care system
  • Performing minor office surgical procedures

Q. What illnesses, diseases and conditions does David treat?
A. Everything from A to Z. He treats asthma, bronchitis, chronic pain, diarrhea, emphysema, flu, gynecological issues, hay fever, irritable bowel, joint inflammations, kidneys, laryngitis, mononucleosis, narcolepsy, otitis media (ear infections), pneumonia, Q fever, rheumatoid arthritis, shoulder injury and pain, tachycardia, ulcers, vertigo, warts, xanthomas, yellow nail syndrome, and much more.

Q. Do most insurance policies cover care provided by David?
A. Yes, most do. Some carriers bill for David directly, while others bill through the supervising physician.

Q. What insurance policies are accepted by David Overton?
A. Most private insurances. We do not accept third party payers at this time (Medicare, Medicaid, DSHS, Molina, L&I, and others). Patients whose insurance we do not take have the option of discounted cash office visits.

Q. What is the payment option for cash office visits?
A. This option provides a very reasonable discounted price for an office visit. This is a choice for patients that want David Overton’s excellent care but either have no insurance, or insurance that has such a high deductible that it is prohibitively expensive to use except for catastrophic care. We can offer this discounted price because we do not have the expense of billing to an insurance company.

Q. What is meant by “Natural Medicine”?
A. David’s approach to health is to do the least harm and use complementing therapies. This means that the whole being is encompassed. He combines many types of treatment, such as acupuncture, auriculotherapy (needleless acupuncture), massage, homeopathy and herbal medicine, energy medicine, vitamin shots, along with sensible concepts such as nutritional counseling, weight loss, exercise and relaxation techniques, proven and other conventional treatments, and more.

Q. Why does he also use the term “Family Practice”?
A. David takes care of infants to the elderly. He commonly sees two or three generations of the same family. This provides these families with more extensive care as conditions can be amplified through the generations.

Q. What makes David’s method of care unique?
A. It is the combination of Natural Medicine and Family Practice. He spends more time with his patients to find the underlying causes of illness and to determine an integrative treatment plan. He utilizes the most natural, least invasive and least toxic therapies first. Blood chemistry, conventional, proven diagnostic tools and tests are also utilized. Preventive medicine is of the utmost importance in his treatment philosophy.
